Roddy New Homes To Build Affordable Housing in Kent.

Sevenoaks-based housebuilder Roddy New Homes has partnered with Folkestone & Hythe District Council to build 26 affordable and energy efficient new homes, it has announced.

Comprising a mix of one and two-bedroom flats and two and three-bedroom houses, the new properties will be let to tenants on the council’s housing list at affordable rents or available for shared ownership.

Forming part of Roddy New Homes’ new Sutherland Park development on Boundary Road in Hythe, each home will be 100% fossil fuel-free and Net Zero Ready (NZR), meaning its total carbon emissions will be offset by the amount of carbon it removes from the environment in the near future.

Built on a brownfield site, each home will also have an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rated B or higher, meaning they will all be classified as having ‘very high energy efficiency’ as a minimum.

The new homes, which will be available in 2026, also feature a number of other sustainable features designed to reduce occupants’ energy bills and carbon footprints, including timber frames, air source heat pumps, air exhaust heat pump and solar panels.

John Roddy, Managing Director of Roddy New Homes, said: “We are delighted to be delivering 26 much needed, affordable and energy efficient homes for Folkestone & Hythe District Council on our brownfield site at Sutherland Park.

“As a company that is dedicated to building sustainable, cost-effective and high-quality homes using modern, low-carbon methods of construction, I believe we’re the perfect partner for the council, whose commitment to ensuring that such properties are available to everyone is enviable. We’re thrilled to be helping them achieve their goals.”

A spokesperson for Folkestone & Hythe District Council said: “We are very pleased to be able to provide more homes for our tenants through this Hythe scheme.

“These homes are further evidence of our commitment to provide housing that is both affordable to rent and affordable to heat.”
