Work starts on Cala Homes site in Wivenhoe

Cala Homes North Home Counties (NHC) has begun construction at its Wivenhoe Gardens development in Essex, with sales expected to launch in October this year.

The upcoming development will offer 85 new homes, 17 of which will be affordable, comprising a mix of sizes and tenures from one- to four-bedroom including a number of bungalows. Cala’s new homes will be built with sustainability in mind incorporating both air source heat pumps and timber frame construction.

Wivenhoe Gardens will also include electric vehicle charging points for all new homes and cycle parking as well as allocated parking for every home and visitor spaces.

The site is located to the rear of Wivenhoe Fire Station and includes the creation of accessible public open space, a children’s play area, and reserved land for the future provision of at least five Charity Homes for local older people in need of housing.

Jason Colmer, head of sales and marketing at Cala Homes NHC, said: “It’s great to see work begin at Wivenhoe, which will not only help towards addressing much-needed local housing, but also help build up a growing community with new public open spaces and transport infrastructure.

“We anticipate Wivenhoe Gardens being a popular development, so we would advise any interested parties to register their interest with our sales teams.”

Wivenhoe Gardens will see Cala launch its Community Pledge at the development, a series of commitments above and beyond legal planning requirements to deliver positive, measurable social impact for the local communities in which it builds homes. The pledge will cover a range of tailored engagement activities such as volunteering, learning programmes, bursaries and donations.

The new development will deliver a net gain in biodiversity through Cala’s Urban Wildlife Strategy, measures put in place to encourage local wildlife, including bat boxes, swift bricks and hedgehog highways.

Wivenhoe Gardens will be within walking distance of Wivenhoe’s high street ensuring close proximity to plenty of amenities as well as local access to Wivenhoe rail station.
