Liddicoat & Goldhill wins planning for Highgate extension

Liddicoat & Goldhill has won the go-ahead for a basement extension to an Arts and Crafts house in Highgate, North London.

The project will extend the house at the rear, create a new basement and remodel the manor house, which was originally designed by Rix and Wilkins in 1914.

The basement will include a swimming pool, spa, a granny flat, and large games rooms.

The ground floor extension has been designed as a garden pavilion and will feature large glazed panels set in front of slender columns.

The clients wanted a scheme that would draw on a similar aesthetic to a college common room with new elements that contrast to the historic building.

The scheme is set to start on site later this year and is expected to complete in 2017.
