FIRST LOOK AT NEW GARENDON PARK HOMES
Housebuilder William Davis Homes has given a first look at the new homes it will be building at the Garendon Park development in Loughborough.
Once complete, Garendon Park will include 3,200 homes and local shops, sports facilities, a community hub and two primary schools, with a link road running through it.
The development will form part of Garendon Country Park, which dates back to the 18th century, and work will include improvements in the park itself – including formalising the right of public access to it.
Homes at Garendon Park will be built by William Davis – which has been based in Forest Road, Loughborough, since the 1930s – and fellow developer Persimmon Homes.
Guy Higgins, managing director of William Davis Homes, said: “Garendon Park is a development which has been years in the making and is special to us, as a Loughborough company.
“The park itself is a space which the people of Loughborough have a fondness for, but until now there has actually been no formal rights of public access to it, and no facilities within it.
“As part of the development, the parkland will be restored and managed, with plans to add visitor facilities, so that everyone can access it and enjoy it.”
William Davis Homes has released its first homes for sale at Garendon Park – a range of three, four and five-bedroom designs – ahead of the developer’s showhome launch, on Saturday, 17 May. Future releases of homes will also include two-bedroom houses.
Works being carried out in the park as a result of the residential development will provide improved footpaths and cycle routes.
There are plans to turn several historic buildings in the park, including former Monastic buildings, into a visitors’ centre.
Historical monuments in the park will be restored, with work recently completed on its obelisk and plans for work on structures including its Grade II listed Temple of Venus and Grade I listed Triumphal Arch.
Planting will also take place throughout the park in arrangements which will reflect the goosefoot patterns shown on the original 1777 estate plans.
Guy Higgins said: “Once upon a time, the park was a gateway to Loughborough when it was a small market town. Now, this development means the park can be preserved as a community asset for both residents in the new homes and the wider community to enjoy.”
