New ‘On The Tools Card’ targets rising costs for UK tradespeople

The largest construction community in the UK, On The Tools, has launched a new membership card aimed at helping tradespeople save money across both work and everyday life.

The NHS and emergency services have had access to similar perks for years, however – despite building our hospitals, schools, homes and even carrying on service as key workers during covid – tradespeople aren’t afforded the same privileges.

The On The Tools Card gives access to discounts on tools, materials and other construction-related spend, as well as money off things most people are paying for week in, week out – including groceries, coffee shops, pubs, retail and insurance.

Big name brands such as Nike, Samsung, Kwik-fit, Confused.com, Virgin Media, The AA, Ray Ban,and Gousto, alongside heavy-hitters in construction such as Jewson, Karcher and more. New deals and brands will be dropping all the time – so there’s always something for everyone.

It also includes a built-in wellbeing area, designed to make it easier for people in the industry to find support when they need it, continuing the work they do supporting tradespeople through ‘Project 7k: The Lost City’.

The launch reflects the ongoing pressure many tradespeople are under, with rising costs hitting both jobs and home life. While trade discounts have always been part of the industry, the idea behind the card is to bring everything together in one place – not just site essentials, but the day-to-day spend that adds up over time.

On The Tools says the card has been shaped around real spending habits, rather than just focusing on merchants. That means recognising that for most trades, costs don’t stop when the van’s parked up.

Alongside the savings, the wellbeing section gives access to support and resources around mental health, financial stress and general day-to-day pressures – areas that are increasingly being talked about across construction, but can still be difficult to act on.

Lee Wilcox, Co-founder and CEO of On The Tools said: “We wanted to create something that actually reflects that reality. There are plenty of offers out there, but they’re often focused on one part of the picture. What we’ve tried to do with the card is bring it all together – savings on the tools and materials you need to do the job, but also on the things you’re spending on when you’re off site.”

The card is now available to tradespeople across the UK for free for a 12 month period, or 2 years if members refer a friend or colleague. Membership will be £10 a year thereafter.
