Amanzoe Residences: Modern Day Classics
Set high upon a clifftop overlooking the sparkle of the Aegean Sea, the Ed-Tuttle designed Amanzoe Resort in Porto Heli Greece is Aman’s first venture onto the island. Surrounded by flourishing olive groves that cushion the perimeter of each free standing residence, a distinct sense of privacy is created, allowing for a seamless blend between the great outdoors and the nature-inspired interior. As expected, Amanzoe’s location lives up to those of the great Amans that have come before it.
Ed Tuttle is the internationally acclaimed architect behind the design of the resort and award-winning residences. Having worked on iconic projects around the world such as Amanpuri, Park Hyatt Paris, Amanjiwo, Amanjena and The Sukhothai to date, he was drafted in to unleash his distinctive brand of creativity on the project and to elevate it to a distinct level of international recognition. He was tasked with producing a design capable of withstanding the test of time in a region where design tends to absorb the heavy historical influence. The brief was clear, nonetheless challenging when the project began. When asked about the overall conception of the resort he said, “Inspired by the beauty of the many classical remains in the region, every pavilion and villa at Amanzoe is built using the most modern techniques while commanding panoramic views over the dramatic countryside and Aegean Sea beyond.”
Strong influence from neighbouring archaeological sites such as the Sanctuary of Asklepios at Epidaurus has led to the honouring of classical Greek elements in the design. Gracious white colonnades form a bold frontage to the residences and rich local marble is used elegantly throughout, yet each element of the traditional is met with crisp, clean lines to ensure the contemporary soul is allowed to breathe throughout each residence. The high ceilings and floor to ceiling windows allow the natural light to flow throughout the open living areas, coolly framing views of the olive groves and beyond. The 4-6 bed residences boast a large private swimming pool lined with local green marble, surrounded by an expansive terrace of Antique Sinai Pearl stone from Egypt.
Residence owners are able to collaborate directly with the architect to ensure their home is nothing short of their dream home. Aman has always focused on the use of local materials, allowing owners to provide input into aspects of both the residence’s exterior and interior design, from the timber and oak fittings to the textured materials and earth-toned fabrics used throughout
