AR Design Studio wins go-ahead for ‘country house’ clause home

Burgeoning country house specialist AR Design Studio has won planning permission for this ‘paragraph 55’ home in rural Buckinghamshire.
The Winchester-based practice relied on the clause in the National Planning Policy Frameowrk – an exemption allowing new-build homes in the open countryside under ‘special circumstances’ – to secure the go-ahead for the 160m2 scheme near Olney.
The firm has a growing portfolio of new-build rural homes and is currently working on applications for another three ‘paragraph 55’ houses.
According to the studio, which is collaborating with Eckersley O’Callaghan Engineers and Landscape Architects Ibbotson Studios, the scheme will ’transform an overgrown paddock into a striking lakeside modern home for a couple with a passion for collecting and restoring classic English cars’.
The design features an open-plan living space cantilevered 5.5m above the water and gardens below which uses ’large panoramic windows to brace the structure’.
