IF_DO unveils plans to overhaul furniture design studio in Cork

Emerging London outfit IF_DO has released proposals for the 10-year transformation of the headquarters of internationally acclaimed designer Joseph Walsh Studio in Cork.

The masterplan for the campus in south-west Ireland includes a series of workshops – with corrugated roofing and unpainted lime render – surrounding a thatched cottage on the family farm.

Proposals are designed to fit in around the farm-based studio, which was established in 1999.

Walsh’s work includes his ‘Enignum’ series of furniture, which involves the manipulation of thin layers of ash wood into ’free form compositions’. His designs have been displayed in the National Museum of Ireland and the Museum of Arts and Design, New York.

The project is on display as part of the Royal Academy of Arts’ Summer Exhibition, which runs until 21 August. IF_DO was set up in 2014 by Sarah Castle, Thomas Bryans and Al Scott
