Saunders Boston Architects to map 100 years of architectural history with SBA100 Walks

Cambridge-based architecture practice, Saunders Boston Architects, has announced a year-long initiative, SBA100 Architectural Walks, in celebration of its centenary. The project, launching today (26 April) in Cambridge, is made up of 10 scenic visits to the practice’s historic and most celebrated architectural designs in and around Cambridge and further afield.

The SBA100 Architectural Walks not only celebrates 100 years of the practice’s schemes, developments and designs, but also its presence in Cambridge over the last 50 years.

The inaugural walk (26 April) will start at the Saunders Boston Architects’ central Cambridge offices, and finish at the buildings it designed for Anglia Ruskin University, including The Science Centre, Coslett Building, Swinhoe House and the Sinclair Research Building.

Other walks, which will be scheduled through the year until January 2020, visit sites in Saunders Boston Architects’ core areas of practice specialism including education, residential, care, leisure and community. Notable buildings on the SBA100 Walks map include The Fisher Building at St John’s College, University of Cambridge, The Perse School Cambridge, Sapphire Ice and Leisure Centre, Spillers Mill and more, reaching as far as London.

Margherita Cesca, Senior Project Architect, Saunders Boston Architects, said: “We devised this initiative as a way of celebrating with longevity; it captures the roots of our passion as architects and our history as a practice. Community is a huge focus of all our designs, and we hope that the project will bring our internal and external community together in celebration of that.”

Saunders Boston Architects has tailored the walks to their employees with the aim of re-visiting historic projects. There are also plans to invite the public, in particular local architectural enthusiasts, to join specific walks during the year; information will be made available on the Saunders Boston Architects website: www.saundersboston.co.uk. Keep up to date with the walks on social media using the hashtag #SBA100architecture.
